Advan A048's are the only summer Yoko's available in my size. And they have a treadwear rating of just 60. And $242 each. Ouch. For the driving we do, we don't need competition tires. Well, 99% of the time, anyhow

I must have the lifetime record for A048 wear - I have 16K on my fronts (205/50-15, medium compound). The rears (225/45-16, medium hard) are good for about 8K miles. Of course, the whole car only weighs 1325 pounds. I'm thinking of trying soft compound on the front and medium on the rear.

The 048s are not "competition" tires in the context of the RE-01Rs. They are true R comps...just not very good ones compared to Hoosier A6/R6 or Kumho V710s.

FWIW, I HIGHLY recommend the Yoko Advan for street use.
That was the Neova, yes?

For those trying to follow along at home, Yoko has a number of tires that fall under the "Advan" moniker. It's more of a sub-brand than a model...and it's the model that makes the difference.

Trying to choose a good 215/45/17 tire, and also ended up looking at the RE-01R (TireRack tests and reviews claim it is very livable as a street tire) and also the BFG T/A KDW2 and the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s.

The Yokos not available in 215/45/17.

Thoughts about the KDW2s or PE2s, anyone?

No, that keeps its worn RE040s. For the MINI's summer wheels. (Getting 16s with rft all-seasons with the car which will be my winter wheels, buying 17x7s for summers.)
