Forget that. I don't have the time or inclination to hand wash my own cars any more. I take my car to a well-run car wash (fairly infrequently, I must admit) and it still looks fine. An occasional professional detail to mitigate whatever minimal swirling might occur and just enjoy the car.

Life's too short to worry about micro scratches in a machine's clear coat. Especially in the northeast.

I think the more you worry about it, the more likely you'll incur the damage you're afraid of.

I used to disagree. But then life happened. And I agree with you.

I understand where your coming from and I find taking the time washing cars by a hand to be a pain in the butt ... I take the 550 and the GL to the car wash but there is no way I'm putting the R8 or 911 through one ... Probably explains why those 2 are always dirty

Btw the 550 which is almost a year old has some pretty nasty scratches because of the car wash ... being its black you see everything.

I think touchless is the way to go. Imo, you're less likely to incur microscratches.

In my region, I see big 4WD trucks with layers upon layers of mud caked on them use car washes with brushes. There's absolutely no fricken way I'd be caught near one of those car washes....

The problem with touchless car washes are the chemicals they use to get the car clean ... It's got to remove any wax or protection you have on the paint.

Haven't run a car through an automatic wash of any variety in probably 20 years.

In fact just a short while ago I ordered the below products:

1 Sonax Tire Gloss Gel - 500 ml $17.99
1 Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 - 16 oz $38.99
1 Dodo Juice Orange Crush Soft Wax - 30 ml $13.99
1 Lake Country Tire Dressing Applicator $2.99

It's a labor of love I've enjoyed since I was little snotty nosed kid, especially at the end when you can step back and relish results like this.

But I can understand how someone would rather not bother or be hassled to DIY. It takes time and patience, but that's why I like it so much.........I can just slow everything down.......and it's actually relaxing to do so......since everything else in my life seems to be frenetic and hectic during the waking hours.

Didn't initially love the orange but do now

I guess I am bit biased since I ride a orange mountain bike.

First bought this stuff for the RV, as most rv parks frown on you using "their" water to wash your rig. But have been using on cars now too.

Dry Wash

edit: and yeah, that orange 1M looks awesome!
