I'm not presuming that you'll get the X3.

I'm just saying that accepting a more weird configuration in order to get the diff seems strange to me on a vehicle that's basically not going to use the diff. The B58 isn't that powerful, and it's AWD.

I think that the Macan is crazy money for a daily driver that you aren't happy with.

It is indeed. Even the X3 is for that matter. So, I keep leaning back toward the Allroad...

I'm waiting for it to arrive at the dealer, so I can do a test drive. They are out of 2020s and have one 2021 coming in.

Edit: Ha! My Porsche dealer is selling this...

I mean, given what you’re looking for, I would have just gone for the X3 M40 and gotten this over with already. It just seems like better overall package vs. 4 cylinder wagon (Allroad or mythical used F31) 😀

And you're all probably right.

What’s weird is, my dealer has quite a few new X3s in stock with the M Diff. And NOT the adaptive suspension—which you would think would be more attractive to luxury buyers.

Looking at the build sheet, I see it must have been a way for them to get their orders Priority 1.

My 340i xdrive puts the power down fine without a rear diff. It's been in some snow/ice; not the heaviest, but surely several inches and uncleared back roads of Quebec. It had no issues with Blizzaks on. I think it'd be a different story if it were RWD. With the low rpm torque, it would need a diff just as much if not more than the e90 and e46 m3's.

Yes. The 2WD cars need the diff desperately.

My 2 needed it for sure. Could barely turn a corner decently without it. Made all the difference in handling and putting the power down when I had the LSD installed.

Maybe I would not have noticed, if I had not had an M3?

One’s expectations of what a car can do certainly mature over time, if you are lucky enough to drive good, capable cars.

AWD largely satisfies the putting power down requirement. My S4 had a center diff AND a sports rear diff. It's roughly the same power level as the 340 though tuned to respond more frenetically. I don't think the 340 could catch it. Was it more pleasurable to drive than the 340? Sportier, more aggressive, but I like the calmer bmw for daily driving, softer suspension, my kind of seats, simpler controls, better mpg's. In the end, the rear diff in an awd car is only faintly noticeable, only when pushing super hard. Even then, it was a kind of band-aid to the greater understeer of the s4 that always wanted to go straight ahead like a rocket. Perhaps that's its purpose in the x3 40i? I've never read up on those cars. Even so, what are you doing driving an SUV around like a mad person? Calm down and go with traffic, it's not a sports car. Same with the Macan turbo, I just don't like being so aggressive, so capable in a truck. The cayenne diesel (before the fix) was spot on in power & handling. JGC diesel was great too (in terms of power, but not good handling).
