Dealer already found one, so it's a matter of getting a decent deal and it's done. They started with a discount of $1.7k, but I'm sure we can do better without squeezing them too much.
Nice!

Is this a 2020 or 2021?

Ha! Thanks.

I’m open to either year, but naturally I’d expect a substantially better deal on a 2020. The one they found seems to be a ‘21.

You know it’s funny, I thought when I saw this thread this morning that there really isn’t much to waffle about, you already picked the color and here I am reading you made your choice.

Congrats, can’t wait to see pictures of it.

Thanks. We told the dealer we intend to take delivery as late as possible while the financing deal applies (March 1st), so it will be a few weeks until then. Still, we are pretty excited.

This will be primarily my car only as a commuter in the winter, when I'll drive it close to daily. The rest of the year I'll probably drive it only a couple of times a week to work. So I expect my wife to use it plenty.

Awesome! Not to be that guy (again), but I’ve been thinking about something similar as the reality of having to teach my kid to drive sinks in.

Another reason I chose the Civic Hatchback. My daughter starts driving in 1.5 years and even though I never outright talked about it to my wife, in the back of my mind I was thinking that this manual Honda is going to be a fantastic car for her to learn to drive on and keep for the other (2) kids also.

Why are car salesmen so cheesy in their sales ways? Some get it but they are few. I think the VW guy is just slow, to be honest.

I was very upfront with him. White 2020 or 2021 GTI SE with a MT. I know VW is offering the rates deal. When you find one let me know and teal me what the $ numbers are on the deal.

He asks how much I want to spend per month. I tell him not to worry about it. To assume I want to borrow $30k and I'll pay the rest out of pocket.

He comes back a few minutes later saying he found a 2021 shows a $1.7k discount and shows payment calculations based on 2.5, 5, and 10k and asks me which of those numbers I want to put down. I tell him again to do the payment # based on borrowing 30k. That I had quickly done the math and it came to ~$511 on 2021. We had to leave but I told him to email us the final numbers.

Today I get a call. They also found a 2020. I ask what is the discount on that over a 2021. He asks me how much I want to pay per month.

I got annoyed and told him the $/month doesn't matter. It will be what it will be. Regardless of car, I will finance $30k at the given VW rates. I just need to know the cost difference between cars.

Maybe I am just not patient enough.

yeah the per month approach drives me crazy too. I guess that is what most customers care about though
