This month's Car and Driver has a comparo of the WRX STI, the Golf R, and the Focus RS.

It's worth a read. The Focus wins going away, on the strength of its driver involvement. It sounds like maybe the Golf R remains the more "mature" of the three, but "(d)ynamically, the RS is in a different league, maybe even playing a different sport. It's far more exciting than the staid Golf and much more polished than the brutish STI."

The article concludes, about the Focus RS: "It's genuinely hard to find anything to dislike. No question, this has become the performance hatchback to beat."

My R gets here next week, but the money factor of the R is ridiculously high: 0.00188, and I will be paying MSRP, so it will pretty pricey to lease.

I decided to give up on the MT requirement, and I just signed the papers for an S3, MF on it is 0.0001 and I got it well under invoice. I'm pretty much going to be making similar monthly payments and the car costs over 10k more, 15k more if compared at MSRPs.

Either car is really way nicer than I need, but oh well, carpe diem or whatev.

I'm on a similar slippery slope thinking about my next car. Started off thinking about a gti with autobahn but that's over 400 to lease. Then stated to think of the r which is around 500- so then why not an s3? But for that money I could get a 340 and have a little more room plus an inline 6. Hmmm

Ya Golfs don't lease well, especially the R, 500 is just insane. My S3 lease is $500. If the R costs around 350 I would've done it. VW dealerships also suck so much. It's just kinda sad even when you're buying their coolest car.

Just picked up my S3 this afternoon. Haven't driven it much, only stopped by Whole Foods and went home, dealership is less than 2 miles away. Ordered an infant car seat today, should be here next week.
