You would like the new 718. Wait a few years until they depreciate.

I can see myself buying a 928 or 944. A Boxster is probably unlikely, but not unthinkable. I'd dig a 911SC, actually, but not at the price, and that's the really the thing. "Real" Porsches (new and used) are priced in ways that don't match the value I see in having one beyond the future ability to sell and possibly recoup everything.

This in a nutshell why I couldn't let myself get a GT3. As amazing as they are to drive through the powerband, it's not only insane for the street but it's really expensive. Even preowned.

To your comment, I think the long hood 911s are all so laughably overpriced. But they're still fun. Like an E30 M3. Just not something one could live with every day.

I love the e92 M3 because it's so competent. But it still has too much 3 series in it and not enough Motorsport.

Which is why Porsche manages to be compelling in some models. It's still a 911. The dentist models are still damn good.

Nailed it.

I do want a 944 Turbo one day but only as a third car and we're not there yet.

Was at the dealer yesterday. The newest 911s are gorgeous. But they have grown into luxury cars first --the detailing of the new cars is awesome in person. The new front airdam and the new rear deck and engine grille with vertical slats. Gorgeous. The GTS I saw stickers for $151,000 though.

The new Turbos are all at $193,000 and up. Technically great. But 'meh' is person.

The cars I like the most are the Boxster and Cayman. They have the right size. The new 911s look too wide. Too much car. The 981s are beautiful. Still, a Boxster S had an $89,000 sticker.

There was a 2009 911 Carrera being prepped for delivery. It looked so plain compared to the new cars. And small, too.

My spouse could not be more thrilled with her Boxster S. And I'm thrilled we did not pay $89,000, even though it was a pretty loaded car. It's a really beautiful car. My only regret is that it's not Lava Orange. But Guard's Red is pretty stunning, too.

it's really noticeable that the 911 has become some sort of Aston Martin type of cruiser car. So competent dynamically. But cynically tuned --in the sense that the 3.0L TT 9A2 engine is likely cheaper to produce (while being more reliable) and has oodles of years of "power increases" built into it. It's an automotive ATM on par with the Macan and Cayenne thingys.

Let's start with what's happening with the 911 RSR racing car....the engine is moving midships.....on an irrational basis, the 911 is always 'the' franchise car. but if we look to the truth found in racing, the true sports cars in the lineup are now the 981.2's. What cars are closer to the legendary 2.7RS? certainly not today's 991.2.

We agree to disagree. I think it's one of the more pure cars, the long deck hooded 911s. They have the torque that is missing in the MX5s.

Every time I see one of the -1985.5 944s, I chuckle at how much plagiarism Mazda committed when they made the 2nd gen RX-7. Interior, exterior... crazy similarity.

But yeah, no.
