The 340 is probably a great daily driver / kid hauler fit for Tom. He may get more enjoyment from an s4 or GTI, but if it leases easy and is a low effort fit, go for it. I'd say if cost is a concern, the 330 is plenty quick, but the BMW 4 cyl, while strong (compared to the last BMW 330 Tom owned) is not a pleasant engine.

The new S4 cannot be had with a stick. So it would have to be a used copy between 2013 and 2016. And I've been passively looking at those for years. The problem is no one seems to equip them as I would have and I have never found my unicorn. The cars that get close seem to always be way overpriced. |

What equipment do you want? Sports diff, B&O. Anything else? Alcantara vs. leather doesn't matter much. They do eat front wheel bearings and perhaps brakes, but what luxury sports car doesn't have costs?
I would personally take a 340i over an S4, but I don't like the exterior enough. Are you sure you can live with the steering of the b8.5 s4? I couldn't. Perhaps the b8 (2012) would have been better. |

I have no idea what the stick is like, but the steering in the B9 A4 absolutely kicks the shit out of the F30, IMO. And the 2.0T is surprisingly grunty. IMO, it's a much better appliance than the F30, as long as you can live with less power.

b8 and b8.5 steering are somewhat different.
I liked the response of my s4 but overall preferred my 2.0T a4 for highway distance (lower revs, more relaxed response and steering). |

Have you considered checking swapalease? Might be able to find something short term and super cheap.
