On the LR4, DIY is close to $120. (oil is ~$10/quart), but it is crazy easy. The car literally has a spot for you to plug in your minivac.
Speaking of JLR, I read this C/D piece this morning and thought of you.

The block dimensions on the V8 and V6 are exactly the same; the V6 is literally just missing two cylinders. Crazy.

Yup. On the LR4 it was stupid. That's why the V8's are sought after. Basically, the RR's got lighter and got V6's. You could not sell the cheaper non RR with the mighty V8 when the posh models get V6's, so they shoved the V6 into the LR4 (with its heavy ass frame intact), gave it the mildest of all facelifts, swapped the 6-speed for an 8-speed and claimed all was well and that there would be fuel economy gains. Sure, the V6 ain't bad, but indisputably, the V8 is better. Oh and no real gains in economy. Also the V6 introduced a PITA auto-engine shut-off and some transmission gremlins. Oh, and the price went up.

Very glad I grabbed one of the last V8's.

I am planning on tracking it at least once, hopefully I don’t dump coolant all over the track

I remember seeing a thread somewhere, probably renlist, where the OP claimed that tracks were requiring the pipes to be pinned. Better check on that first....

yeah I heard the same thing but if true assuming it was PCA requirement, might do a BMW event first,.

Edit: was just reading my local PCA magazine about their recent track event and it mentioned about the track going cold because of coolant dump. Assumed that was from unpinned mezger.

The pipes are a legitimate issue. When I had the 997TT my plan was to not track the car or do anything crazy like long road trips for a couple of more years (or incident requiring it), when it would probably be worthwhile to drop the motor and do a bunch of "while you're there" things - including of course, the pinning/welding of the pipes along with a new clutch, new plugs, etc.

Anecdotally, it seems to be a bigger issue with the 997. I can't remember that last used 996 turbo listed for sale with the pipes done, but I've seen a few 997 that had to do it.
