Is this the stupidest thing ever written about cars?

There's a lot of competition, but this expose of the poor fuel economy of turbocharged 4 cylinder "economy" cars comes pretty f'ing close.

JV, you will be deeply chagrined to know what might have been, had you not deluded yourself with visions of gas sippery:

EDIT: I should say the one surprise about that list is the Matrix, which is way too boring and stupid to have such bad gas mileage.

While some of those fuel mileage numbers are pretty bad, it's unlikely someone shopping for a performance-oriented small car is going to cross shop a Honda mini-van or Ford f-350 truck.

So yeah, it's dumb.

It's not about cross shopping... it's about the basic engineering/mechanics... if Ford can get that mpg out of a boxy and heavy truck, why can't Subaru do better on much smaller, lighter and more aerodynamic vehicle?

Fortunately many people buying those trim levels don't care as much about mpg, but I do agree that those are bad.

That is a pretty stupid thing to write, but it just goes to show how different people prioritize different things in car shopping. The Odyssey seems like a stupid vehicle to me because it's but but yet it can't tow and doesn't have a place to put big, heavy, dirty things.

The mileage of the Mazdaspeed3 is abysmal for what it is. The gearing dictated that. But my wife absolutely loves it, and that's all that matters.

Some of the comparisons are dumb but it does make some interesting ones like a dodge challenger getting better fuel Econ than a vw r.
