First —what is the 2X?

I’m not saying I would get a 2021/2022 GT3. Those cars are $220k plus the $150k markup. Plus CA tax (~10%).

I would stand behind a CPO last gen GT3 manual (2018 car) or the 2022 GTS manual, which is not 2X, it’s like 150-180k.

I think the 5% improvement is a subjective rationalization for someone who wants to have that. I’m not saying that I do.

I wouldn't get much use out of a $1,000 beater Miata. But I also wouldn't get much use out of a $20,000 pristine, 3,000 mile NA Miata. I've put some thought into this as I contemplate what vehicles I'd like to own. Would I occasionally, on nice days, take a beater Miata on a grocery store run? Or to go climb? Or just out for a drive? Probably, occasionally, and I'm sure it'd be enjoyable for those use cases. Would I take it on a 300-400 mile trip to a vacation destination with Marisa? Undoubtedly not. So ultimately such a car holds roughly zero value to me.

When we bought the 987, I contemplated purchasing an ND Miata instead. Ultimately we decided not to, because for roughly $10k more in purchase price, we got a lot more car that cost us less in depreciation in the long run.

Emotions are complicated though, and who knows why certain cars tug at us in certain ways?

2018 GT3: 150-180k.
2022 GT3: $370k including markup.
180k x 2 = 360k... what am I missing? Were you not considering a new GT3?

If your question refers to why the multiple over a Miata or a GR86 or ZL1 or C8: here are my thoughts —

The top end speed.

Build quality.

Confidence in the design/engineering principles and how well they are executed when reduced to practice.

It’s been 20+ years of trying to figure out what is worth the money, what I can justify plus reaching the right economics. And it’s incredibly subjective beyond $50,000. And intensely personal. I don’t have a lot of hobbies. Or a lot of free time. Driving is the one thing. Twice a day. And it’s priceless to me.

I was, until I realized how stupid the markups are.

2018 GT3 manuals are all in the 205-250k range.

So market forces are actually pricing them at what a new 992 GT3 costs at MSRP, if you could get one without the ADM.

This car went for less than I expected. Can't tell if it's the "high" miles (14,000) or the murdered out look, but might be a combination of the two.

The murdered look kills it for me.

That's more like attempted murder.
