For anyone in love with an older 911, I challenge you to drive the long hood G bodies, then a 964 and then a 993. The cars get heavier and heavier and unless we are talking about the 993TT, I’m not sure it’s a dreamy driving experience. My 993 ownership was profoundly frustrating because the cars are quite slow and like JV always says, the damping is fucking weird.

I think that people's definitions of slow have moved to weird places, though.

The 993 is not a fast car, nor does it handle well out of the box. And I’ve not driven a Singer 911 but the appeal is also kind of lost on me nowadays more and more. And maybe to Nick’s point, I appreciate the bone stock power of a 987 S more and more. It’s so well done, it’s really difficult to get markedly better than what that car is.

Any idea how far above (if at all) MSRP that is? Looks like the Turbo S starts at $207k, but you can add lots of absurdly expensive options

Exactly why I cannot understand the appeal of these monster hp cars that have come out. Sure they are cool on paper but if you dont track them where do you use them?
Is the 718 GTS really that fun when you can’t wind it out past second gear without getting artrested?

So yeah, you're not getting any argument from me that a US market 993 drives weirdly. It does. Decent shocks and RoW springs make a huge difference. A tie rod upgrade also makes a huge difference. And I'm just saying that describing a near 300hp car that weighs around 3,000lbs. as slow really highlights how much the bar has moved.
