I would honestly have to be sitting in the CX-5 (which is parked at the airport right now) to remember the button dance, but I know it involves going into Mazda's maddeningly-slow infotainment system to disable it. I've periodically done an internet search to see if there's a way to permanently disable it (through re-coding) and have to date been unsuccessful.
I have to imagine I could disable the front sensor in some way but I don't drive the car enough to make that worthwhile. |

It's always good to have one of those. Right now the GTI is that car, so not particularly great at flying under the radar, but it beats a Land Rover and an orange M3.

That is a fun history!
His fascination with the Mark 5 is pretty weird. I don’t remember that version all that much. Also no comment at all on the Mark 2. One of my fav’s esp the first two years of the 16v. I did not care for the later years big bumper version shown in the clip. This is also a great rundown of the golf generations and specifically the R’s. https://youtu.be/6CT9aUDptZY I don’t seem to remember the Mark 6 Golf R shown at 9:10 in the clip. Maybe I just blocked it out as it was the first R to downsized to the 4 cylinder.

I traded it for the Mk VII, partly because mine had been in a wreck and I didn't want to deal with selling it on my own. That was probably a mistake; the Mk VII was faster and smoother but not better, overall. I traded the Mk VII for the F80, and honestly didn't do too bad on it--even before the crazy runup in prices, it only depreciated about 20 percent over two years. If I'd kept it, I could probably sell it now for what I paid for it new, but then again the F80 would be several thousand more, too. What can you do? Anyway, I liked the Mk II, thought the Mk III was meh, and rather enjoyed the 1.8 turbo Mark IV. Never drove a Mark V. The Mark IV VR6 was a car I wanted to like, because I wanted it to be a cut-rate Golf R, but it definitely wasn't. That was just a boring car. |

My wife has been driving our GTI to her work and has been getting almost 35mpg Yes mostly freeway, maybe 2/3rds. but pretty impressive. Says she goes between 72 and 74, must be short shifting before boost
