Agreed….

Sunday night I heard something coming up and down the street 3-4x, even over the TV. Upon investigation it was a murdered 992 4S Targa. It sounded great!

It sounds like the 911 will be a mild hybrid system, probably a 48v starter like BMW uses for a little power boost and much smoother ASS tech. Every change has 911 enthusiasts up in arms air-> water, hydraulic -> electric assist, N/A -> turbo, etc. At the end of the day, the 911 is still great.

Our current plan is to get one of the last 992 manual verts offered and order it exactly how we want it as a forever car. I'd love it if we could put our order in ~5yrs from now. We'll see if they keep the manual for that long.

Right on! That’s my plan too, re: grabbing a 992.2 before the full lineup changes.

I/we am/are over-estimating the rage against a mild hybrid 911. But I look forward to seeing it. If they can minimize the weight gain, that would be the thing that would impress me.

As much added oomph as those systems add, so do they add weight and you can really feel in the car. I know I do in my sedan? It weighs about 400 pounds more than it should and I’m always reminded of that during hard stops.

My 997.2 is thirteen today.

That’s all…

Edit: Like Josh and lemming I can also envision myself ordering one of the last manual, 992.2 C2S or GTS Coupes in approx five years. Guessing I will already be rid of the G87 M2 by then?

The cars do tend to age well. I’ll say that.

By then……I hope the market isn’t so crazy. But like JST pointed out, the 992 market will be much like the 997.2 market likely. Small production numbers due to whatever reason. But will make it difficult to find the unicorn cars.

Gnarly.

This market for cars, but especially 911s, gets weirder and weirder.

My RX-8 has one thing in common with that car: it uses the same electro hydraulic steering pump

Ha!

That is great automotive trivia.

I think I’m not going to buy unless the right car jumps out to me.

I’ve focused in on 2018/9 GT3 manuals or 2022 GTS manuals. The wildcard is if i see a 2018 GTS manual, I might want to buy that.

Have been driving the 987 and the 991 quite a bit and it’s good to really dig in there to see what I like/dislike I think. It could help inform the upcoming purchase.

The 987.2 is really at an ideal weight —a curb weight that almost never happens anymore in cars. And when the hybrid sports cars come they will all be 3500-4000 pounds even for the lightweight ones. I think the brakes on it are terrible (I know, it can be fixed). I think the gearing on the 6 speed is meh compared to the engine. But the engine is pretty great and I still think the DI flat sixes of this era will be a true high point for the naturally aspirated flat sixes. Build quality is good. It’s not solid but the car is still well made. The only rattle is the driver’s side mirror. For 20k or whatever this car is worth, it’s basically priceless.

The 991.2 is really not a sports car. It’s a bruiser. And while it’s 500 pounds (FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS) lighter than the ZL1, it still feels like a dreadnought. There is definite lag below 3000rpms and it is not until you’re in the right shift algorithm and above 3000 rpms that the car comes alive. And really, it’s infinitely stupid to do that on legal roads. This car feels like 200k in how well it is screwed together. It is vault-like solid. The problem is, why would you take a car this pricey anywhere that there are other people who don’t care how they park or where they put their carts, etc? It limits the usage by a lot.

I feel exactly this way about my 135. I couldn't ask for a car that better fits what I want in a daily driver/fun 'beater' convertible than that car. When you find a car like that just keep it forever.

I feel this way about our base 991 that's half the price of your car. I've gotten better about not obsessively worrying about it, but I do cringe at every pothole public parking place, idiot driver or gravel patch on the shoulder that the car in front kicks up. It does take away some of the joy.
