Porsche 718 loaner car
So… the 997.2 is at the dealer this morning for its first service locally. Updating PCM 3.0 and Nav maps to the lastest available, 2019. MPI, oil and filter, manual trans fluid, and parking brake adjustment. I was planning to wait while all of that was performed, but I was unexpectedly given a loaner car. A *manual* 2021 Boxster S with 9100 miles when I first got in it. Right off the bat I was unimpressed as it was quiet and it appeared to have a watered down luxury car ride, but I have just spent nearly the past hour or so driving various East Tennessee curvy two lane backroads. Thoughts now? Not bad… fairly impressed, especially when it is put into sport mode with sport exhaust on. I certainly like the specs of this one, but I personally would not order/purchase one with the four-cylinder.
GTS 4.0 only… Edit: It is nearly impossible to get a loaner car from our local BMW Center so that alone tends to make most owners or potential owners want to jump ship for another manufacture. I used to get loaners from the dealer in Chattanooga (Sonic Automotive dealer) but was forced to wait this past May. Anyways… to get a loaner when my 911 is 13 years old and I did not purchase it from them has me absolutely thrilled and also now has me thinking that when the BMW extended warranty expires on the X5 I should probably move over to a facelift Cayenne Coupe. Our Penske-owned BMW dealers still offer loaners (when reserved in advance). But our closer one does not, unless the service is X number of hours. |

Global is a Sonic Dealer. They should offer loaners in advance. I ordered and purchased my X5 from BMW of Nashville which is also a Sonic dealer.

My (Penske) dealership will also give free loaners, a few of them are super nice (M340i, a really nice X5, etc)

I always thought it was normal for dealer service departments to have loaners. Seems like good marketing to current customers.
My Audi dealer has loaners, which you need an advance appointment to guaranty. A manual Porsche is pretty cool though. Back when my E46 was young, Momentum BMW here in Houston used to have a few manual loaners. I got an E46 manual once but the best was a manual Z3 2.5i.

I know, right…. I was informed that they acquired it via the Porsche auction. My service advisor believes it was an executive car given its specs.

That car looks to be very nicely spec'ed. Was there a window sticker with it? That's an exciting loaner. I would carve out a couple hours of my day for an extended test drive too. At our Porsche Dealer, I've only gotten Cayene loaners and they re-affirmed how much better X5s are both on value and daily usability. At my local BMW place, they've been loaner limited - it takes a couple months for an appointment with a loaner. I got an older 7 series with 97k miles that was still rock solid and then an X2 that was a complete PITA.
