Speaking of special paint, here's an Individual car that BMW painted in the wrong blue:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2013-bmw-m3-74/ Amazingly, the replacement car they made for the guy in the right color has also been on BaT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2013-bmw-m3-27/ And if you want to know why BMW might not be super excited about dealing with Individual orders, well...just read the guy's somewhat extra reaction to finding out they built him the wrong color car: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=842479 |

Yeah—not that I blame the guy for being pissed, but his insistence on the interior change at end of production was a little over the top.
Anyway you can see why this whole thing would just be an invitation to an unbelievable logistical headache. |

Wow. And, oy, what a wimpy color that Atlantic Blue is...We had that option for the Z3 as I recall, and it was a hard pass in favor of Topaz.

I'd take Topaz over either of them. I think I might like the Atlantic better than the Atlantis, but TBH, every time I look at the two links I get confused which is which. Reading a bit of his thread, I totally get wanting a new version w/ the right paint I/O repainted, but I don't get why swapping interiors would be a big deal. The fact that he had a whole German vacation planned around it does make it worse.

"BMW builds the wrong car and buyer refuses to take delivery" is not very compelling. What I found most interesting in his story was the description of the description of the damaged 7 series and that despite ample time to do so, BMW gave the buyers no notice.

Yes, the Atlantic blue is not great; the pics at BaT are the best ones anyone has ever taken of that color, and they’re essentially so filtered as to be not representative.
Estoril or even Montego would have been a way better choice, though in fairness it sounds like he tried to get one of the violets and was told no. |
