Boxster Spyder

Got a chance to drive one today back to back with a Cayman S. The difference is pretty remarkable; after stepping out of the Spyder the Cayman felt all sorts of meh; loose and a bit sloppy and rolly. I'm still not sold on the Spyder as any sort of practical option, but part of me is now thinking bad thoughts about suspension mods.

Also, fuck I hate PDK.

That's really interesting... I assume a new cayman?

I'm very tempted by the spyder. It looks fantastic and everyone raves about the drive. I just won't let myself drive one until I own a home with a real garage (if ever). I'd like to be able to leave the top down for the season, so I don't fiddle with the mechanism daily. A different climate zone would help too, but leaving the condo garage is more of a must.

Wouldn't the cayman R drive basically the same? Are you counting in the open top experience as well?

Yes, a brand new DFI Cayman S.

The weight reduction I'm sure is part of it, but my guess is that you'd get 90 percent of the same results by putting in suspension pieces and save a lot of money in the process.

And, yes, PDK is smooth, but boring.

the whole point of the car is to be involved.

PDK's mission, as evidenced by it (in every day usage) supplanting tiptronic, speaks loudly --that it's a performance advantage at the track is, as clyde would put it, superfluous.

I've seen a couple Boxster Spyders... Not sold on the styling and less convenient top.

Based on your driving review, I will be sure to steer clear from testing one though... Don't want to know how much "better" my Boxster could be with some suspension tweaks

Sports cars used to come with tonneau covers you could snap in place over the interior. Many british cars had the addition of a zipper to open the cover on the driver's side only. This because the old tops were such a pain to deal with.

I wish this option still existed, I'd love to drive my car in colder, poorer weather top down if I could cover most of the interior - the heat would stay below and the interior would stay clean (mostly).

Plus, it's just kinda cool in the old traditional way.

987.2 Boxster with some work done to the suspension would probably be pretty incredible.
