335d test drive

coworker got a 335d as loaner and let me take it out for a spin

Positives:
-It didn't sound like a diesel when you are on the gas, driving slowly did have the diesel noise.
-Didnt feel turbocharged to me, it is slushy only so it only felt like the normal slushy car to me with the throttle lag.

Cons:
-Felt a lot slower then I expected. Basically didn't feel like it had 425 ft pounds of torque, very disappointing. Everyone bitches about the torque of the S65 but it feels better then the 335d, slushy issue?
-The car had no sport package, front end was very floaty, sort of like a boat and you sort of suggested on where to turn.

Overall I still don't see the point of this car, I like diesels but would rather see a smaller one with better gas mileage. This performance diesel did not have enough performance to me, gas 335 seems like a better option.

I know that we don't think of Motortrend as being the best automotive authority these days, but I just happened to read their long-term wrap up on the 335d last week and was surprised by how different your review was.

To summarize their view on the car:
"it might just be the best car on the road."

I had one as a loaner and really liked it. It had sport, though.

sells in such low numbers they'd never deign to give us a true manual version, huh?

i was actually pondering a MINI diesel if i can get one in a manual.

FWD aside (and it matters not so much in the MINI), i prefer this way to have torque and frugality than hybrid whatever.

i'm surprised by your feedback because everyone in the press loves this car.

all things are relative, huh?

Mini diesel manual would be a great daily driver.

The 335d isn't available with a stick anywhere--too much torque for any of the manual gearboxes BMW uses.

A Mini diesel would be a great daily driver--but then again, a Cooper S is already pretty good, and I'm not sure the extra mpg bump would really be worth it.

A 320d is what I'd find interesting as a beater/trip car.

You've got plenty of time to drive a Mercedes after you turn 50.
