Kid Craiglist-swaps his way to a 986S. But...

Speaking of gas costs, Ortiz has changed his mind about keeping the Porsche. Hefty maintenance bills have dampened his excitement over the roadster, and he's looking to trade the Porsche for a more sensible Cadillac Escalade before too long.

I like the part about how he "downgraded" from a Bronco worth $15k to a Boxster worth $9k. Not sure about the condition of either car or how accurate those values are, but I do know that older Broncos have a strong market and this Boxster could be a rough, high-mileage piece. I guess he is showing us an example of what enabled him to trade all the way up... sometimes people will trade in exchange for something of less actual cash value because it has more value to them.

If he did do this honestly and without scamming anyone, good for him. He's got some good bargaining skills and he can probably do well for himself.

I did lol at the Escalade comment too...

Yup, the 986 could well be a real POS despite how it sounds (Oh, he got a Porsche!). And by the wheels an other mods, this doesn't looks great on the outside and likely is abused.

Also, 6 hours a day for 2 years will buy you that car easily if you worked those hours.

good point, didn't think of that.

6 hrs/day * 5 days/week * 50 wks/yr * 2 yrs * $8/hr = $24k. Take out taxes and there is still plenty left for a beat-up 986S.

Of course, that requires one important assumption-- that he was using his free time to do this and he was not already "on the job" or perhaps "in school" while he was spending this time bartering. If he was doing this while already on the clock for someone else, I'm even more impressed.

No one here would ever think of doing something like that...

That was the first thing I thought of after reading this stupid article , that the author ignored it just shows more laziness on the part of the "new media".

6 hours a day for two years for a nine thousand dollar car is hardly impressive ...
