FWIW, I tried for over a year to get NJ to register my Atom.

If you're not in NJ, you probably have no idea how screwed up our MVC (what we call our DMV) is. It is a combination of political appointees at the top and [un]civil servants at the bottom. Every 10 years or so (since at least the mid-1970's when I began paying attention) they all get hauled off to prison.

It is so corrupt that 'inspection' these days consists of having an up-to-date registration and no 'check engine' light. Period.

Anyway, it got to the point that I was in an MVC office and had the Deputy Chief Administrator (the "top of the food chain" because the Chief Adminstrator was removed - see above comment about prison) on the phone. He flat-out told the MVC agent I was dealing with to register my Atom and she refused. He later left me a voicemail that said "Go register it in another state - that's what I did with my pickup truck." I kit you not...

So I went and found a no-inspection, no-front-plate state and gave them the sales tax money. NJ's loss.

Yeah that thing is pretty nuts. A pretty strong endorsement of the basic E39 platform.

A Taycan GTS wagon drove by me on the freeway and it sounded like it had an ICE.

Anyone know if there is some sort of sound setting? seems odd that I could hear it at freeway speeds though since I would think it would be for slow speed pedestrians.

Apparently there is an Electric Sport Sound as an option:

On most taycans "Electric sport sound" is optional. On the GTS its standard. When equipped with this option (and it is enabled by the driver), sounds are played both in the car and outside via speakers. The GTS has a slightly different sound and I believe its also a bit louder which may be why you noticed it.

yeah the 2nd half of that audio clip sounds about right. Guessing Porsche cranked it up for the US since they could.
