Carfection indeed.

I hadn't researched this model but it actually would fix many of my gripes with the GT4/Spyder:
- 265 rears instead of 911-width 295's
- Power folding top
- No MPSC2 - more street friendly MPSS or P-zero
- PASM a bit more comfortable

I do remember the GT4 as a sharp driver, but short of the track, which I did not take it to, I would not go so far as call it more balanced than a 981S with PASM. It was just harder edged and perhaps, as a result, easier to feel out. But the limits were less approachable (MPSC2, temperature, etc). That said, you can equip a 981 with passive 030 suspension. Not sure if you can with the 718 GTS. I'd go for PASM regardless for comfort.

Great review. The theater reference at the end doesn't hurt. A touch of class...

Sounds awesome, and much more DD livable.

Very cute theater reference indeed.

I hope to eventually own one of these. It seems pretty darn perfect. And it may be one of the last, great MT cars. Since I am a few years out, maybe I can get a used one in 5 or so years.

I always smile at your 5-year plans, but this particular time, I think you should. It's not enough of an improvement over my car; nor do I drive my car enough to consider it, I'm still at 22400 miles at nearly 7 years old. But... If I had the moolah, this 718 pair would have my attention over the GT4/Spyder. I bet well-specced ones sell at MSRP for a while and have strong resale...

I've always had a soft spot for the 981 GTS. It had a lot of equipment I would want that is difficult to find spec'd on a regular Boxster. I do love the power roof vs the spyder roof. The one thing I envied was the better brakes in the spyder. the earlier 718 GTS's still had the 4-cyl, so I paid them no attention.

But this one is great. All the good stuff from the spyder with a discount and a real roof, and of course, the 6-cyl. Major want on this one. I cannot consider it new, unfortunately. And I am sure prices will hold on resale, but if there is a car I am willing to spend serious cash ($50k+) despite low use, it would be one of these.

The 981 GTS (3.4) was within reach when I was shopping but it is nothing but a well-specced S with some extra annoying sound added. I wouldn't say no to one, but I'd have to remove the sound box in the cabin area, not a fan of boom. Both base or S 981's sound great even without PSE (slightly better than the GT4). The 981's have a nice clean sound, and not too quiet to begin with. The 987.2, while an excellent car, was too quiet stock to my taste (added Remus). PSE would be good too... On mine, I usually keep PSE off and would probably not order it... But you only know this stuff after hundreds of hours of driving; I was delighted that it had the exhaust button when I purchased.

I haven't bought a car yet this year, my 987 is 14 years old (ten in my possession), and I have a couple of years before I have to start thinking about what to buy for a 16 year old.

Which...

Hm.
