Did you write down the option codes (on the label on the backside of the front trunk)? You could have done that and then gone online to one of the option decoders to find out what the car originally came with.

For what it's worth, I ended up selling my 2000 986S for $17,500 about a year ago. That car was as nice as you'd be able to find and had fairly low miles. NOBODY is paying that price now for the early cars. They are much cheaper.
I should have bought your car. Bad timing.

There was a cassette deck behind the face. Yes, odd.

I saw the sticker and should have written down the codes, but didn't. If I felt more serious about this particular car, I could swing back by today. But I don't.

I'm learning as I go. And I appreciate being able to learn from you guys as well.

Testing this over 40 = BMW 6-series hypothesis...

How old were you when you got it?

And it took a while to sell at 17.5k. But it does make you think... When recent, decent boxsters are in the teens, the air-cooled's are way over-priced. Though they have come down as well.

The interior/buttons/secondary controls on the 996/986 are really a sore point for me. I hated driving my 996 at night, I couldn't see any of the buttons. The wiper adjust was a knob that was next to the stereo for example... There were lots of buttons and blanks from the same shiny, curvy, black plastic and none of them did anything.

It took a while to sell but I was trying to sell a convertible in winter. It was to be expected.

The interiors are not the best. It's made up for by the driving experience.
Porsche has never been known for great interiors, though the Cayenne is pretty nice inside.

I don't know about that, you're driving an old 5 series with an automatic transmission - the TD of yore would never had settled for that, free or not

Free or not free, I could never daily drive a car with an autotragic, especially a BMW auto.

I can't really see the point of a 6er vert over a 3er vert.
