Of course! It doesn't help for me that there's just never been quite precisely a 911-shaped hole in my life at a time when I could make it work. The closest I really came was a 964 back before I had kids (I *probably* could have afforded it?) and a 996 shortly after (had no idea about IMS bearings back then).

So the 911 is always aspirational in the sense that even though I could now buy one if I wanted, it would be impractical in ways that my existing cars aren't--but not so impractical as to be out of the question (like, e.g., a Ferrari or that Sierra Cosworth that I definitely should have bought).

It's like that puzzle piece that looks like it has to fit, even though it doesn't. But maybe it does, if you rotate it a little?

As far as PDKs go, it's really too bad that it's such a deal-breaker for me, because used PDK cars trade at a significant discount compared to manuals.
I would prefer an S as well, but I would be willing to settle for a non-S, especially just to get my foot in the door with what would be my first P’ Car.

I do not believe I would be willing to sacrifice the manual for a PDK no matter how good the deal is.

The 997.2 base is more than enough oomph. The 3.6 is torquier than the 3.4 that replaced it in the 991.1 and the gearing is lower. After five years with it, I went from my 3.4 987.1S to the 997.2 and it felt like a noticeable step up in pep. Really should have kept that 997.2, it was a bit of a mild spec, blue & beige interior, but man, lovely dark blue outside and absolutely mint condition.

So yeah, for me it's enough. But then again y'all seem to need more speed than me.

That BaT car is PDK and has the dorky (sort of worthless) base wheels.

Can’t quite say thanks, yet. Some hoops to go through before closing on the 19th of March. But thank you for your positive vibes.

Wow, what a terrible time to buy a house!

Agreed. It would be the manual that would elevate it and mitigate the lesser power. PDK makes it more appliance-like—a further dampening of the whole experience.

Manual 997.1 is the better choice; higher mileage might keep price reasonable.

Anyway, SCA, for your first Porker, this might be the better choice!
