Well to be clear, the three-spokes looked awful on the Fox Mustang as well. But you're well-aware of my utter disdain for those pieces of automotive garbage

I do sort of wonder if the effort to ditch the cladding and the 3 spokes after just one year was an attempt to make the car less like the Mustang it had originally been supposed to be.

In retrospect I kinda think the probe was the best looking of that group

My grandpa had a first gen MX-6…. I was in high school, so drove it a bit. I still remember being fascinated with the shock settings…

I almost bought a 2nd gen MX-6 in ‘97. Test drove a couple that were 2 years old at the time. One had been thrashed and was in horrible shape. The other was in great shape, was in a color that I liked (the burgundy red) and had the tan leather interior. I had researched prices as best you could in those days (called a buddy with access to black book…) and they were still asking just a bit more than I was willing to pay…. If I only had an extra $1-2k at the time, I probably would have bought it.

I mean nice E36 but $40K with 81K miles nice?

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-bmw-m3-136/

Used cars are just insanity right now.

I always wanted one of these Alpina motored 4.8is’s. The pre M X5M.

$45K for the 4.8is is currently the going rate or so it would seem. A similar E53 4.8 with 26k miles sold for around the same a few weeks prior. Eric Keller (EAG) placed at high bid of $44k (just prior to his passing) and that seemed to weed a lot of bidders out. The car did not climb much higher from there.

Edit: Correction, the other one only had 7k miles. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2006-bmw-x5-4-8is-15/

Estoril / Black seems like a pretty rare combo. Most of the Estoril cars I've come across have had the Dove interior. This one was really well presented. I'd love to own it... but not for $40k

The BaT thread for the cars we won't buy, but kinda wish we would

Wow, yea this pricing is crazy. Hard to say how much of this is car market craziness vs. the market has finally adjusted long term for some of these cars just like prior gens. Also finally starting to feel real since these were the cars I interacted with right before / during my dealership days. Appreciate E30, E36, etc. - but late 90s/early 00’s was the sweet spot for me, I didn’t see the earlier models as much and didn’t have as strong of an emotional attachment. A later model year E39 M5 or E46 M3… Missed the opportunity to buy one a lot cheaper 5-10 years ago. The X5 4.8is was also a really cool car - pretty rare back then, not as common as an X5M is today. Actually met Chris Bangle once due to an X5 4.8is break down (flat tire).

Worst leather ever in the E36 M. Dove just compounded it. I know.
