Yeah, it’s funny to pull Carfax sheets on 997.2s (and 987.2s) and see them sitting at the dealers for months before being retailed.

When I bought my used 2006 in 2010, it was common to see new inventory that had been languishing. At one point, I was seriously considering a 2008 Boxster that was still new, never been titled.

My ‘09 C2 was built in March and sold in May. For a manual up against the all new PDK it went rather quickly. Female purchased too.

I get this request frequently. Usually, they follow up with, “I’d reaaalllly like a GTS, but don’t want to spend that much.”

I typically answer, “Yeah, you’re not alone.”

“What do you mean?” they ask perplexed as if there’s a warehouse full of them.

The last time we had a 997.2 C2S manual coupe to sell was 6 years, 7 months, and 23 days ago, which was 649 cars ago; but, who’s counting?

There is something magical about these last generation 997.2 Carrera S Coupes with rear-wheel-drive, 3.8L DFI engine, and 6-speed manual transmission.

Unfortunately, production during that period was at a new low (75% less than the previous 4 years) due to the global financial crisis.

Furthermore, the PDK (automatic dual clutch) transmission was new and all the rage. Production numbers estimate that only 20% were ordered with a manual.

Finally, because most new car orders during that time were coming from the dealers versus individual customers, 55% of the cars were specified in white or black with only 13% ordered in silver.

Out of the 2,575 Carrera S Coupes that came to the U.S. between 2009 and 2012, only 75 were silver with a 6-speed manual.

The real question is how long are you willing to wait for yours?

Love all the details in their listing. Interesting note about the inflation adjusted MSRP “The MSRP was $101,690, which is approximately $142,440 in today’s dollars.”.

I guess a current 992S specced similarly (lightly optioned) would come in around that number.

Also interesting background on how few of these were made and why the color selection is what it is.

I suppose one could buy this car and probably have no depreciation beyond losing the difference between retail and trade in value. With some big maintenance and repairs done recently you could probably run it for a few years for just regular maintenance costs

If I could get an allocation my 992.1 C2S build is $157.5k.

Porsche Code:
PRAVRQK2

My 997.2 has lost 0, but at the same time I have invested additional monies into it via factory upgrades and annual maintenances. It really doesn’t matter as it is not going anywhere. “I know what I got!”

Would you have preferred that over the T?

The person that bought it 'didn't like the blue color in person' and listed it on the PCA site a while later for $160k. His for sale ad said "send me your $160k offers by x /x/xx date and I'll decide which one I feel is most worthy to accept....

Thanks for sharing that. It is wild to see what the market was like back then. I get the same vibes when I look back to the first few pages of this thread. I mis-click on page 3 of this thread often and see this listing again. Makes me chuckle how our comments were 'holy expensive':

Being a serial 996 owner, I think the 997.2s got it right. The DFI engines are game changers, IMO. They make the pre DFI engines seem anemic. Since the 997 is based on the 996 chassis, I think they did really well ironing out and maximizing the grip available. The six speed from the 996:997 era is clearly superior to the 7 speed in the 991s.

I still have access to the hydraulic steering from the era. I know a lot is made of this but it’s not revelatory to me. But maybe that’s because I skipped the 991.1s where Porsche hadn’t really figured out EPAS yet.

The driver to the wider chassis in the 991 was really the racing programs —so the grip in the 991s is really insane compared to what I remember in the 996 footprint.

It’s also cool that Porsche created that PCM retrofit module. It guarantees the 997s will always be a holy grail, all around, whether it’s an S, GTS or GT3RS. High point for the 911. To me, it’s beautiful as a car and performs. I never felt like the 993 performed. And while I loved my 996s, they always felt like a beta version of a 911.

Currently unknown. On paper, probably so… My T build is more of an enthusiast spec whereas my C2S spec is more GT.
