I wasn't going to protest, but he seems to be offering you $5k if you want it... and don't want free supercharging.

I'm not going to refuse that offer.

If they take away free supercharging to get the $5k back, then I’d ask for the $5k back. Paying for supercharging will still be less!

Telsa continues to fuck with its customers and its customers continue to say, "meh."

Awesome business model.

Next point...

The Library of Congress's right to repair ruling yesterday seems like it could have an impact on their "pay us to unlock this feature your car already has" practices as well.

Will be interesting to see how this stuff plays out.

Meh. I'm not a customer but this doesn't seem like a big deal. You bought the car you bought and ostensibly we're okay with it. Should first-year buyers be pissed for paying up to get a special new model when it's offered with crazy deals a year later? See: golf R.

Taking this to the extreme doesn't work. At some point it turns into "All software should be free because it doesn't cost you anything to give it to me."

A less extreme case is selling server software with a license based on how many CPUs you're running. Want more processing power? Pay us money and we'll enable you to spawn up more copies in parallel. This happens all the time.

I think Tesla will be fine in this regard... but I'm usually wrong any time I try to predict anything, so...

So wait, doesn't this make having ordered the Perf Pack an even better decision? Now you don't have to bum out about it being essentially free and not have gotten it.

Possibly yes.. But I'm not sure it will actually happen. And it may go to the P3D- crowd too. We'll see.

EDIT: Some guy in the forums is claiming he called Tesla and they promised him a check.
