My mom had a 4 cylinder Z3 for a few years -- I think it was a '97. It has less power and was still fun :-)

I just watched a video by the dreaded Doug about your new car … wow that car is just so cool, it is such a special car from the driver manual being kept in the trunk being there is no glovebox, to the movable cup holders, the actual drive and feel of the car to the cool retractable hard top …
Great choice !!! My family had a 1990 red Miata and then a 1991 special green edition … just a really fun car !! Btw I see the Z 3 mentioned, we had one of those when it first came out, also a fun car. |

Congratulations! If I didn't already have the boxster, I would buy a miata for sure. I love the latest generation.

Since the Miata won't arrive for 2-3 more weeks, I've been looking at some accessories to get. Using this post to save some links for reference -- not buying most these before it arrives, but I could see getting some of the below once I have the car for a bit:
Trunk lid springs, so the trunk opens all the way when pushing the key or bumper button: https://mx5things.com/collections/ma...unk-lid-popper Trunk organizer that fits in the lower well: https://mx5things.com/collections/ma...006-2016-nc-nd The guy selling the springs and trunk organizer also has a Thingiverse page for 3D printing parts for both of those as DIY (we have a 3D printer, so I might DIY the trunk thing -- just would need to buy a MDF panel and spend some time cutting the dividers out). He has a few other things too: https://www.thingiverse.com/ssh16/designs SmartTop module that allows 1-touch top up/down and also allows it to work while in gear and to set the top speed (the stock config requires holding the switch for the 13 seconds it takes to drop/raise the top, and the car must be in neutral and moving <6mph). It also allows the switch operation to be reversed -- the stock switch feels backward -- pull up to lower and push down to close, so reversing would be nice. I could see this being handy if you need to put the top up while at a light and the light turns green -- apparently with the stock option, as soon as you put the clutch in, the roof stops moving... http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/shop/in...de=view&id=162 Alternative top controller that also has an optional window controller to add 1-touch windows up. This one also allows use of the key fob if the accessory part below is installed. https://flyinmiata.com/products/mx5t...oof-controller Accessory power override (keeps accessory when engine off for up to 10 min or until driver door opened). Also allows the roof up/down with engine off and the use of the key fob to open or close roof/windows with the above controller. https://mx5things.com/collections/ma...wer-controller This isn't Miata-specific, but I've really gotten used to having telematics recorded on my Teslas. After reviewing a few options, this one looks to be the best mix of features and value ($8/month subscription is pretty reasonable -- and I've looked at telematics packages for large fleets, so pretty familiar). There's an OBDII dongle that costs $77, plus the monthly fee (with no lock-in/cancel fee) -- part of the fee covers the cell service. https://www.bouncie.com Trunk rack with vacuum cups (unlikely to get this soon, but if we keep the car past our daughter going to college, I could see doing weekend road trips, so a bit more luggage capacity might be nice): http://revo-rack.com/language/en/con...-luggage-rack/ A storage panel that goes on the under side of the trunk lid with straps to hold various things. Kind of hard to describe -- so look at the pics in the link. https://ankhasport.com/products/trunk-lid-platform Stubby antenna (the Miata still has an aerial). I'll probably buy this before the car arrives -- not too worried about lower reception since I really won't listen to the radio much (I tend to listen to podcasts in the car)... https://www.cravenspeed.com/the-orig...%20%7C%20%2425 Phone mount that fits in the cup-holder clip. They also have a version that has an aluminum ring that fits around one of the AC vents, but I like the cup-holder clip option since I might not need the phone to always be visible. There's also an adapter for it that takes Apple's MagSafe charging puck. https://www.cravenspeed.com/the-gemi...a+RF4th+gen+ND Seat belt holster -- keeps the passenger seat belt from flapping when not buckled in. https://www.cravenspeed.com/seat-bel...a+RF4th+gen+ND "Miata" script badge that replaces the "SkyActiv" badge in the back. Similar to the NA badge... https://www.carbonmiata.com/shop/maz...ogo-version-1/

Two observations:
I had a stubby antenna for my M3 convertible and my 2 series convertible. No perceivable loss of signal and a big visual improvement. I need that seatbelt holster for my 4 passenger side belt. I think the tensioner was a cost/parts cut in the car, because it knocks against the interior and drives me crazy. |

I remember my e46 had really weak seatbelt tensioners as well - so the passenger belt was always flopping around Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My NC Miata had horrible seat belt tensioners as well. The driver's side was very slack.
