Clyde, How many miles on the FoST?
Think the ediff really killed the life of the pads?

The fronts were replaced in October at about 22,000 miles, which did seem kind of early, but compared to what I'd read on the FoST forums, it didn't seem *that* out of line. I don't put too much blame on the edif wearing the brakes. In October, the rears were supposed to be at 4mm. One pad is the one you see in the pic. The other three all looked like they had 2-3mm left.

Tangibly scratchy, but I put new rotors on, too, so, whatever.

You know, I read this thread, laughed (seriously), and forgot about it...
... until I went to put the summer tires on Marisa's Mazdaspeed3 this weekend. And noticed that the rear brakes were pretty worn out (136,000 miles, not bad!). Guess what? Yep. Fortunately, the Autozone tool worked. I guess I could have called you, but then I wouldn't have gotten to drive in to Laurel on a Saturday afternoon. |

I bought one of those kits for the MCS's rear brakes when I researched the job. Worked perfectly. So far I've only used it once, but I'm sure it will come handy again.

There should be a law mandating that emergency brakes be implemented with an integral drum rather than piggybacking on the rear caliper.
Could be worse I guess, on newer VWs with the electric e-brake, you need fucking SOFTWARE and a goddamned LAPTOP to retract the rear brake pistons. |
