So. The world keeps winning.

The three series as we know it is finally dead.
I actually did BMW's drive event in it, at Meadowlands, with the RWD, 4-cyl and up-spec suspension. It was fine. I really had no issues with its driving, I do prefer my 6-cyl, but everything else was similar. Is it as fun as a boxster? No. Is it comparable to the e90, e46 etc? I think so. YMMV.

Surprised at the weight increase in the G-series, my AWD 6-cyl car weighs in around 3800lbs (that's a bit more optioned than my version, so I expect high 3700's for mine).

There’s nothing wrong with the current 3-series if you rebadge it as a 5-series.

The 2 series is *not* a 3-series replacement. It can’t plausibly seat 4 adults and it’s not sold with four doors.

My F80 is about as big a car as I can tolerate.

The thing about the G30 is that to me, from the outside, it doesn't look any more modern than the F30. It just looks bigger - grill, headlights, cross sectional area of the front end, etc., but it doesn't immediately jump out at you as "the new 3er." If anything, if looks closer to "the new 5er."

With the demise of the MT on the G30, and rumors that the G80 M3 will only come with MT (if at all) on the RWD model with less hp, that means that the MT G80 will likely be no faster than the ZCP F80's.

So yes, the 3er started dying a while ago, with a big drop after the E90, but now it really does feel like there is little left of what drew enthusiasts to the brand.

Audi has been good at the AT/AWD thing for a while. MB has upped their game. Now there is Tesla, Alfa, and all the Japanese. Everyone wants crossovers now. It's sad.

Maybe Cadillac will continue to offer a stick on a good chassis. Hopefully they up their interiors so they can offer the full package.

To me the g30 looks like a “blob of bmw”. I know it’s become almost cliche to say that each new 3 series is ugly but seriously this one is. Then again, I don’t find any of the competitors designs particularly inspiring except the Alfa’s. The model 3 has grown on me (in the right colors and with the upgraded wheels).

Worse yet it has Lexus design details now.

Looks like IS/GS from certain angles.

:shudder:

I don’t mind the IS - but the GS is definitely up there with the g30.

I walked past an Infiniti Q50 today and from certain angles it also resembles the g30 though it’s actually a decent looking car.

Whole different class of car, but I like the lines on the upcoming Lexus RC F

But, of course, it only has an autotragic transmission

So, all the interesting cars have died.

What do we say to death?

Not. Today.
