This was my biggest issue with our e70 X5. The transmission took forever to lock up then kicked you in the back of the seat. Made it impossible to pull away from a stop smoothly.

The only cars I felt some nostalgia/desire for after the UDE are e90/e92 m3's. I prefer sedans, but would take a carbon roof coupe. Manual and not black/black are musts.

Was 2009 a memorable update? I looked for a e90 / e92 / v8 m3 thread but don't see one. If I fail at the 997.2 (or 991.2) that's the place to go.

yeah 2009 was LCI, I had a pre-LCI 2008 e90 M3. Sedan improved the rear taillights and updated I-drive I think was the major changes.

2009 was the "facelift" year for the sedans.

Much less important for the M3 because they only changed the tail lights and trunk lid externally. NAV was upgraded from absolute garbage CCC to garbage CIC. IIRC, they tried proprietary wiper blades on the '08s as well, but canned that for '09.

Net-net, not much to care about and the '08s are a lot cheaper.

E9x M3 production was very small in 2009 and 2010, so the bulk of the E90 population is either 2008 or 2011.

That's what I thought... No real mechanical changes. At what mileage are rod bearings to be checked, 75k?

Immediately. My survey suggests that early engines are more prone to rod bearing failures (easy to preemptively fix), later engines are more prone to main bearing failures (cost to fix preemptively is huge).

CAn't remember -did that have the ZF 6 or 8 speed? Another annoying aspect of BMW's ZF 8 speed applications (atleast in the cars I had), was a tendency to have a very rough shift from 1st to 2nd if you lifted from the throttle soon after starting from a stop.

I wanted one of those for SOOOOO long and by the time I got around to it, last year, I didn't want to deal with another “oldish” M car. The last 4y of M5 ownership I got super burned with things needing to be replaced. I am getting an extended warranty when the factory 4y runs out on this one.

That said there is nothing like the sound and feel of the S65. Just wow.

Have you driven one? I am sure JST will tell you you have to wind it out to really get it moving but then you get to listen to it while you do. Not a bad thing.

It’s been a long time since I’ve driven one. I’d like to try one back to back with the F80 and see how different they feel.
