I passed, was passed, drove alongside a claptrap E34 beater wagon today driven by a teenager. Assume it was a 525, but dunno. It was all kinds of messed up, but it looked good. I want one of some kind. I'll never have one.

This one will be of interest to me.....

Looks like a nice car. But green with a black interior doesn't do it for me. Not very 'inviting' colors (but I am sure they still have an appeal to some folks).

I have my car insured for $52k. But, mine is a GT (for what its worth). Interesting to see where this one ends up. Both cars seem to be in real similar condition.

I don't know if you saw the tv show blue bloods with the Buillit Mustang but being a Mustang fan you'd probably appreciate this ... it was my brother in laws actual car used in the show. He is a big Mustang guy ...

I don't get the appeal of old Mustangs. I once drove a '64.5 Mustang 'vert cross country and it was honestly pretty miserable. And not just because we had to get new points and a distributor in Columbus in the '80s. Yeah, it looks kinda good, but that's about it.

Doesn't this apply to almost all cars from the mid 60s?

They have smells, and sounds, some have looks, and some have massive power. A few have small size and super lightness, but those have their share of misery, too.

The problem is that car's today are really fucking good. Too good, mostly.

Absolutely...

In 2006, the Mustang had just been finished and I was taking it on a 'test drive'. The shop owner (Larry) who restored it was with me. I drove the car for years (back in the 80's) and remembered how it drove then. It drove the same now. Larry kept talking about how good this one drove and it was so nice and so on and on... I was not very happy.
Larry also knew that I had BMW's and Mercedes' in my garage.
LOL

While it did 'drive' ok - My unrestored (but maintained) 1973 2002 could run rings around this car in every department - except in a drag race.
To this day, I still call the steering wheel in the Mustang a 'suggestion device'. Comparted to the Mustang, the steering wheel of the 02 was a surgical instrument. LOL This was typical Detroit quality of the 60's. And why the imports would soon take over.

The appeal then?
On a sunny summer day on a nice country road with the top down and nowhere special to go - there is something very wonderful about being on a leisurely drive with the Mustang.
Not canyon carving, not long interstate hauls, not having to run errands downtown. But just easy going driving and taking time to enjoy the scenery and stopping at a small spot for diner for lunch with nothing special on for the rest of the day - that is where this car is at.
At least for me -

Everything here is so full of truth it wouldn't be allowed in the White House these days.
