Here is one of the ~350hp-ish runs from early on. The engine kind of sounds like an industrial vacuum cleaner with a cold. But good gravy does it crank out power effortlessly.
Turbos are cool. |

According to the youtube caption, it's from the dipstick. So, not very.

This vid was the first full pull we did on the dyno and the smoke worried me. It ended up being an idiot problem. I forgot to tighten the bracket that I welded onto the (re-bent, Ranger-sourced) dipstick tube. The dipstick tube vibrated out of the oil pan and windage forced oil out the hole and onto the hot turbo. Good news is that means generally my crankcase ventilation system is working, otherwise that dipstick tube would have been blown clean off.
Sunday I finally got the rest of the air out of the brakes. I had a huge bubble in the ABS pump that took a few cycles to get out. I put some decent pads on the car and it stops well. RX-8s always had really great brakes. The list of stuff I need to do is getting shorter, at least temporarily . I've got the first shakedown event on April 13th, so less than two weeks away. 1) Final alignment and corner-balance and ideally, bump steer the rear end 2) Put in a softer wastegate spring so I can soften the power delivery 3) Fix the intake manifold leak at the head 4) Finish setting up the wing 5) Build a battery box 6) Get out and start tuning the closed-loop boost control At some point I'll have to figure out the anti-lag system and set up the flat shift system (and test it... yikes) but I don't think that's gonna happen soon. |

Sometime, I’ll have to show up for a ride along. I’ll be out of town this weekend, sadly.
