It was more than a facelift and there were significant powertrain upgrades. Some suspension improvements and refinements as well. It's an objectively better car in almost every measurable way. I just thought they looked ugly and never really cared for them.

As for the 968, seems like a odd engine choice big displacement 4 cylinder 3.0l 4 cylinder and 2l 6 cylinders

Yeah, the 968s look goofy af, a weird combo of 928 and 964 styling cues grafted onto the 944.

The 944 Turbo is where it’s at.
