Just saw the edit. The 90% charge showed 248 miles.

I don’t have it in mine. I do have a small Rubbermaid cloth covered box that sits down there and holds extra stuff out of sight...
Edit - it’s one of these. Works well and doesn’t move... http://www.rubbermaid.com/en-US/shop...nto-in-lombard

No center console. Actually prefer it without. Nice to be able to just toss stuff down there.
I did get a set of GM cup holders which I held in place with 3M tape. Works really well and is better than the stock cup holders, which are way too high. These: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/thre...holders.33350/ |

Speaking of cup holders, I bought the front cup holder extension thing a couple years ago. It slips into the ones in the armrest and gives slightly lower and more forward cup holders plus a slot for things like phones. Really only use it on road trips since it allows a cup and the arm rest to be forward. http://teslacupholders.com/index.html

You might have it set to "ideal" instead of "rated". When new, the S85 had an EPA rated range of 265 miles, so 90% was ~239. There's an option in the settings to flip this...
Tesla originally touted range by using the "ideal" metric, which was 300 miles at 60 on a flat road for the S85 -- pretty unrealistic. I've found the EPA rating is pretty good for commuting range, and Tesla now uses that in their published range guides... My S60 originally had a 100% charge of 208 rated miles, and I'd get 184-185 at 90% -- never saw the theoretical 90% of 187. 100% charge now is 190-192 (it will vary…), and a 90% is 169-171. Considering the car is approaching 5 years old and has just over 83k miles, its done pretty well. Its hard to tell exactly how much of the range loss is due to degradation vs an out-of-balance battery, but at worst that's 9% degradation… Its still perfectly usable and has plenty of range for road trips...

Just out of curiosity, do those batteries degrade like smartphone batteries ??
If so, how much does it cost to replace them ??

Yes, the batteries degrade, though not nearly as quickly as smartphone batteries. That’s for a couple of reasons: the pack is temperature controlled, and it’s rarely being charged to full and discharged all the way.
As for cost? Well, they are expensive. But you’re seeing a fair number of Model Ss passing the 5 year/100,000 mile mark with only moderate degradation. In any reasonable use case they should last the life of the car. |
