Struts/Shocks
I know that mileage typically plays a factor when it comes to replacement, but what about low mileage vehicles? Does age come into play then?

From what I've heard, it depends on the car, the design of the shock, and the kind of use/roads.
I thought it was pretty standard that 3er shocks were only good for 40-60k miles. By the time my ZHP hit 60k, it was starting to be noticeable that they would need replacement soon. I'm sure a back to back drive with a new car would have made it extremely obvious they were worn. On my 190E, they were known to be good for 100k+. |

I think my M3's were starting to go at 38k. Bad city roads, big wheels, an low-profile tires.

Thanks guys!
I asked because the rear of the E90 appears to be sitting lower. It has just happened within the last few weeks. |

Not likely to do with the shocks. The shocks don't provide much contribution to the ride height of the vehicle.

E46es have a history of breaking the rear springs. The E90 does have a different design, but I'd start by checking that.
