Mechanically, by design, the subaru vehicles are superior because it's integrated AWD with decent fuel efficiency and lower weight. The others are all front wheel drive biased. If that matters. I also think the Subie motors are smoother. I

True. True. I didn't even know about this issue. I know about somewhat fragile half shafts.

Just texted the wife. Apparently she's test driving cars on her own today. I am speechless!
(...although I have a bad feeling about how this will end...) |

I have no idea what you're talking about . . .
Still, I do like our Forester a lot. I like the ride heigh and dry or wet, whenever I stomp on the go-pedal there is none of that torque steer bullshit that I hate. Some decent low-end grunt, too. I can't wait to take it up into the forest service road network. I think it would do awesome up there with it's AWD and independent suspension. It just soaks up the rough roads that I've taken it on. It also did well bombing through the 20 ft puddle the other night, too. Subaru's AWD system was a big selling point for me and I was hoping my wife would like the car. Definitely keeping a close eye on the oil levels, though.

Mine might actually find it less stressful without me there.

The only Forester I've ever driven was at 9,000 feet, and it was totally, completely, utterly gutless. Other than that, and not having nearly enough room in the back seat, and being really ugly, it was OK.
If I was shopping this segment I think it would be between the CX-5 and the EcoBoost Edge, but who knows. |
