The new MB GLE comes standard with 2.0 4cyl. And the Volvo XC90 is 4cyl only. Agree, that seems like a lot of car for an engine that small.

True. I think most buyers wont' know or care. The car is quiet enough and they've added enough vibration dampening to the driveline that it's not too noticeable. Main thing you notice is soft response from a stand still. Seems like reivewers aren't too impressed with the 3.0T powered Q7 fwiw (and I think that's the version JST drove that inspired his Q7 rant thread).

Eh. Remember how pathetic truck engines were until about 20 years ago?
Or think of the Unimog. Modern transmissions (and the sheer output of a 4-pot turbo) mean you can do a lot with a dinky engine. Will it be slow? Sure. Will it work? Yes. That said, Audi is rating the 2.0 for 4,400lbs, while the 3.0 is rated for 7,700.

Our first X5 was pretty anemic with the 3.0 non-turbo engine, also mostly felt moving from a standstill. What was the output of that engine, 265 hp?

Also, much as I shit on modern turbo engines with manual gearboxes, they have a lot more grunt down low. And the drivability issues largely disappear. Edit: For example, a gasser F-350 in the mid-90s had 150hp (!) and 260ft-lbs. of torque. A 2.0T compares pretty favorably with that.

Checked out some other cars including the Q7 but I don't want to hijack this thread too much. I really liked the Q7 though the facelift is coming out in April so I'm not sure if it's worth the wait to pay more than the current model Last edited by Alan; 09-08-2019 at 08:54 PM. |

Seems like the biggest difference with the facelift q7 is Audi’s new all touchscreen MMI. I haven’t used it though personally I’m not a fan of systems that rely solely on touch. |

I’m not a big fan of all touch only either plus we didn’t want to wait until the release in April.
