All GT3 Tourings are great, but I'd prefer the regular 18-way seats and blue or green exterior.

White is fine on a gt3, but the hard seats are not for me.

I have to say that good race buckets are among the most comfortable seats out there.

OK, let's recap this one:

Car sells on BaT 5 years ago for $34K.

New owner has the IMS bearing replaced; shop bungles job, engine has to be rebuilt. Shop that bungled the repair does the rebuild (for free, I guess).

Bidding now at 36K with 6 days left.

IMS-at risk car sells five years ago at then market price.

IMS issue resolved

Car for sale again with not-at-risk-IMS at current market pricing.

Is that correct?

If you call “shop that can’t install an IMS rebuilt the engine” resolving the IMS issue...sure?

It’s absolutely unclear to me that proactively replacing an IMS bearing with one of these aftermarket “solutions” is lower risk than just living with the IMS risk. I do not particularly trust the aftermarket IMS solutions, all of which have been engineered by entities with a lot fewer resources than Porsche...and which haven’t been rigorously tested for durability. Will they be better than the stock part? Probably, assuming the theory and quality control are what they’re represented to be, I guess. But I also detect a strong snake oil whiff off a lot of these guys.

Would I pay more for a car with an aftermarket IMS bearing and an engine rebuilt by a shop I’ve never heard of over a car with a stock IMS bearing with a 30k mile stock engine? Nope.

Others clearly are making a different calculus.

EDIT: Anyway, part of the fun here is watching the delta between the market price for 997s today v. five years ago.

Note also that the IMS Retrofit people recommend that their bearing retrofit be replaced every four to six years.

http://imsrebates.com/

Which builds into my inherent mistrust of their product, since it ensures that either these aftermarket units won't be used long-term or (if they are) that the maker can just raise his hands and say "wow, well, yeah, you didn't follow our instructions" when it fails.

So the funny thing (?) about this 997 is that it will actually due for ANOTHER IMS replacement in 2024 (I think).

JST - I agree, that 997.1 is sketchy. Out of curiosity, what's the right way to approach IMS fixes? I recall my mechanic mentioning that he had to do a clutch job on a 997 and was taking care of the IMS while he was in there - I assume with improved OEM parts?

You were not the target buyer I had in mind. Probably not the BaT typical buyer either.

There's clearly a market for the snake oil since they wouldn't be there if there wasn't. With those buyers in mind, is the characterization reasonable?
