I’ve always assumed that the Great Recession had a big impact on 987.2/997.2 colors; fewer cars built, I assume fewer cars ordered with more being ordered for dealer stock, and maybe a greater reluctance to buy cars in flashy colors even for those that were ordered.
I don’t have any data on that beyond the small number of total cars built, but it all makes sense. |

Based on the demographics of 911 buyers, it's not surprising most of the cars are painted in conservative colors.

I would get a GT car in a loud color for sure, but while I’d still search for a non-silver/grey/white/black regular 911, I can certainly understand going for a more sedate color. Ideally, a nice elegant metallic blue, dark red, etc. would be nice. But I have no problem with a GT silver 911 with a nice interior.
