Toyota previews "new" tech ripped off from BMW
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=121208
Seriously. They couldn't even come up with a better/more original name than "Valvematic?" I mean, I appreciate that they didn't just call it "Valvetroniq" or something, but a bit more effort would be nice. What would also be nice if this straight-from-the-press-release puff piece would note that, in fact, this is not so much a "new engine technology" as it is a "further attempt by Toyota to rip off what someone else came up with, just like we did with VTEC....I mean, VVTL-i." |

You should see the flag waivers over at the Lexus message boards, claiming that the new Valvematic is the best thing since sliced bread. They shut up pretty quickly, though, when someone clued them in on the fact that BMW has been using the technology for many years now.
Because, you know, Toyota can do no wrong. |

From my understanding a Swedish Co. developed the technology (valvetronic) and BMW paid them for the rights to use it. I read this somewhere many years ago so what I recall from the article may not be 100% accurate.
