I like it, but it's probably going to go for 2X what I could get for the Boxster...is it twice the car? The top doesn't even go down.

I really do miss that car sometimes
Thanks for your pics. Yeah - it is a nicer color than it looks (just based on the auction pics).

Thanks again

This is crazy! there are two car auctions right now of cars I had in the 70's and 80's

In college, I had a 1972 Fiat 850 (pos!) https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-fiat-850/ Mine was the exact same color, but I had no hardtop or rear luggage rack. Check out the pictures to see the crazy looking distributor cap. The exhaust mounted to this motorcycle size engine was one piece! Header, muffler, tailpipe all one piece! I remember 0-60 being a question mark, but 50+ MPG made a great college car.

Out of college, I bought a Triumph GT6+, Then when I started working for rock and roll bands I bought a 72 BMW 2002Tii. Mine looked just like this one https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-bmw-2002tii-17/ except mine had the "roundee" tail lights.

Neither of mine were in as nice shape as these two, but cool to look at these pictures! My 2002 may have started out as nice, but I did modify it a little with a KamII spoiler up front

Another one just popped up on BAT. Not as pristine as the LMB one, but gives you lots of headroom on price to spruce it up if needed. Plus, I'm partial to Sterling. Personally I think it is the most fitting color for E39 M5s. It is a much more interesting color in person than the shit pictures in that listing present.
I don't get why the bidding is so low on this car. Is it really just the pictures? It sounds like a very nice example.

Maybe an indication of how important presentation is on a site like BaT.

EDIT:

And the bidding is up to 35K already on that 997.1?? Wow.

Yes, years ago though. Brian is a full-on OCD car nut like many of us, and the car is as sorted out as you’d imagine. It reminds me, condition-wise, of my ‘99 and ‘88 M3s, only properly preserved with an appropriate amount of money.

I saw in the comments that he's your friend with the m3T and that he has an m5T as well. It read like he was selling those too. Do you have any info?
I highly doubt the m3t is going up for sale. It’s his company vehicle and he raves about how perfect it is for that purpose. I also thought he had decided to keep the m5t and use the m5’s sales to find a new project, but not entirely sure.

The M3T started life as a 325iT with a busted drivetrain. The engine, suspension, transmission, instrument panel, all came from a wrecked E46 M3. (he stopped short of dealing with the body panels) The exhaust was interesting; he put a 330i muffler onto the end of the stock M3 system. Aside from the usual engine swap niggles, it's a perfect beast and carries around all of his Fibrenew stuff with ease. (Oh, and NB/plug: that interior was always nice, but Brian really outdid himself when he freshened it up for sale. His franchise is the deal deal)

I don't remember the exact details of the M5T. I thought that he'd actually used an S65, and not an S62, but I may be mistaken. One of those 5s was supercharged as well, but I don't know if it was the M5 or his current M5T.

The last time I spoke to him about his projects, he was talking about building another M3T with M3 fenders and all of that, or maybe building up some new kind of E39 project, but that was months ago. I find it kinda funny that I introduced him to BMWs long ago; he had sold his Grand Prix for a Millenium Yellow C5, and I'd bought that '99 M3 shortly afterwards. Before I knew it, he had the M5 that's for sale, a couple of E36 M3s (including one with a Euro S50, and a '95 Avus coupe that saved his life when someone t-boned the shit out of it) and those project cars.

I have no need for this vehicle, https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1981-ford-bronco/ I do, however, want it!

I can't believe this thing is up to 3700 bucks! I paid 550 for mine, and it was in very good shape (when I bought it, not when I sold it : )
