My biggest issue is the ride makes me car sick. It has a really bad early floatiness and a left to right movement in the suspension that stiffens up after the initial float and makes me very queezy. My son mentioned it also after about 20 mins in it. It happened to me every time I drove it.
The 2nd issue is it's very expensive without being very good at anything. Both of the ones I had were pretty lowly optioned base 6cyl models and they were both over $75k.

The 8AT programming is not good. It has a really bad down shift routine when you're slowing to a stop that is quite jerky and also seems to upset your braking, as in it kicks down too early and overly slows the car so you lift off the brake a bit and then close on the car infront of you too much. It also kicks into 1st before a complete stop which does not feel pleasant. On take off it can be caught not ready too. Not as bad as my e70 x5 but if you are messing with the throttle you can get a set up where it doesn't go, doesn't go, doesn't go then boom goes a lot.

Everything else is *fine* I guess, but there is no Porsche DNA in that thing.
Good thing I don't have my heart set on a Cayenne!

My current thinking is a low/high choice between the Mazda CX-5 and an X3.

Would the X3 4-cylinder be livable?

Delta runs like this:

Mazda with everything you'd want: $40k

X3 30 with options: $58k

X3 40 with options: $65

What makes me zoom back to the Mazda is the $25k delta. That's a lot of $$$.

Or a slightly less optioned AWD CX-5 with the big engine for $30k.

EDIT: Yep, the Carbon Turbo is about $33XXX. Although a hitch would be handy. Takes it up to $34. But quite the difference versus the big engine X3.

Hitch, Cargo Cover, roof rails, trunk mat. Still under $35k before tax...

And honestly, I bet it's a lot nicer to drive. The X3 sucks.

The Carbon Turbo CX-5s aren't here yet to look at in GA. But, easy enough to drive a comparable model with the same engine. 2021 models are just trickling in.

COVID surge is not the greatest time to schedule and go on test drives, however.

I’d love to hear Nick expound on this, because the X3 is one of the highest rated (if not THE highest rated) smaller SUVs out there.

That said, I understand he is not fond of SUVs in general.
