yep, I am really really happy with the Mazda3 for kiddo 2.

I just drove up to Dallas with him for a long weekend, put almost 1,000 miles on it, and it continues to impress

That's great. Seems like dealers around here are ordering WAAAY more CX-30s than the Mazda3s, which are getting scarce. I hope Mazda keeps the model around. But, not sure why it's SO much more expensive to insure than the small SUVs.

Did this for all 3 of my kids, Safety first.

There are some nice reasonable choices out there, I always suggest looking at the new Hyundai's & Kia's, they offer a lot of car for the money.

Right! We had no safety systems for years! Not even headrests in our cars. (We were lucky to have lap belts.)

Does Hyundai have anything interesting? The newer stuff is incredibly safe, reliable and is, I dunno, appropriate for a kid to have as a first car.

They are ugly and I don't know if you can get a stick in anything though.
