I owned a E30 318i sedan that I bought off a family friend when I was in high school and was fun given my alternatives, but at this point I see zero reason to not get a 325 instead.

I also love red with tan interior on these. It just completes the 90210 look.
Totally agree on red being the best exterior color. Green is also good given the era.

E30s (at least the hardtops) have such a great, playful feel at or near the stock I6 power level. Like an early Miata, it feels like you can drive around at 10/10ths without scaring yourself or anyone else.

I'm thinking about that--in part b/c the driving I'm doing recently is all inside the beltway stuff where I'm lucky if I can even breathe on the throttle in a 400 hp car, and in part b/c at some point in the next couple of years I'm going to have a younger driver in the house that needs to learn a stick but doesn't need 400 (or even 280) hp.

You should buy the red one. Or a red one. That grey is boring.

If the power isn't enough, we can fix it. (Although I don't have JV's visceral objection to the M42. It's fine.)

Nick is wrong. The M42 is terrible.

While I generally believe Nick on anything E30 related, it is a little concerning to me given the vast number of E30s that he owns that none of them are an M42.

Nick is well-off enough to not have to concern himself with such downmarket offerings

Having said that... buy the red one and swap an S52 into it IMO that's about the right power level for a street E30.

Lol. The reason why I don't have an M42 is that Alex and sons wrecked all the 318s. Remember that the 325is was Alex's "it won't start, get this the fuck away from my house" car.
