E30s (at least the hardtops) have such a great, playful feel at or near the stock I6 power level. Like an early Miata, it feels like you can drive around at 10/10ths without scaring yourself or anyone else.

I'm thinking about that--in part b/c the driving I'm doing recently is all inside the beltway stuff where I'm lucky if I can even breathe on the throttle in a 400 hp car, and in part b/c at some point in the next couple of years I'm going to have a younger driver in the house that needs to learn a stick but doesn't need 400 (or even 280) hp.

If the power isn't enough, we can fix it. (Although I don't have JV's visceral objection to the M42. It's fine.)

Lol. The reason why I don't have an M42 is that Alex and sons wrecked all the 318s. Remember that the 325is was Alex's "it won't start, get this the fuck away from my house" car.
