Tesla factory will stay open as an 'essential business' despite coronavirus order

I reserve the right to adjust my opinion, but I don't disagree with him on that point right now.

The entire American car industry was on the same page until a few hours ago.

There was a lot of reporting yesterday that this was coming today.

And it's happening globally, too. Musk may be talking about himself can cavalierly about his employees, everyone they come in contact with, and everyone they come in contact with because the Electric Show must go on, but production shutdowns probably have a lot more to do with wanting to limit inventory and anticipating bailouts limiting the financial damage.

With new incentives and manufacturers halting floorplan charges, you'd almost think people aren't buying so many new cars.

Quote:
Tesla on Saturday filed a lawsuit against the California county that has prohibited the electric car company from producing vehicles during the outbreak.

The suit followed chief executive Elon Musk threatening in a series of tweets earlier Saturday that the company would sue and move Tesla’s headquarters and future programs to Texas and Nevada. He appeared to leave open the possibility of maintaining some operations in Fremont depending “on how Tesla is treated in the future.”
How dare the government try to keep Elon from killing his employees and endanger his company's stock price. How dare they.

I mean I know you don’t like Tesla, and Musk is an abrasive asshole.

But the Big Three are all restarting, and the position that Tesla is taking about the safety of operations isn’t different from what they are doing.

The big difference is that Tesla is in Alameda County and the others aren’t. I can’t really blame Musk for being pissed.

My first reaction is, there's nobody holding a gun to the employees' heads and forcing them to go back to work. Or keeping them from looking for employment elsewhere if declining to return to work would result in their dismissal.

My second reaction is, at what point would it be acceptable to re-open his workplaces? Or any business, for that matter? We can't spend the rest of our lives hiding on our basements. At some point we have to make some tough decisions and start moving forward again.
