New Car & Driver tests the new Z06

(sorry if this is a duplicate post - but I can't find the Z06 thread)

New Car & Driver tests the new Z06

Quote:
0-60: 3.6sec
1/4: 11.7@125mph
0-150: 17.5sec
Top speed (mfgrs claim, drag limited): 198mph
70-0mph braking: 162ft
Skidpad: 0.98g
EPA City: 16
EPA Hwy: 26
Curb weight: 3147lbs
Horsepower: 505@6300rpm
Torque: 470@4800rpm.
Redline: 7000rpm
Base Price: $65,800
Price as tested: $69,995

Brakes: 14.0" front, 13.4" rear
Wheels: 18x9.5F 275/35-18, 19x12.0R 325/30-19
Weight distribution: 50.9%/49.1%

Highs: Supercar performance at a reasonable price, everyday practicality

Lows: An uncommunicative chassis

Verdict: If the rest of the GM line were as good as this, the company's troubles would be over

the torque numbers look unimpressive.

oh well. sign me up. wait......i already am.

'been driving the z06 daily now for a few days and it's still an amazing vehicle. it is hard to imagine a car that is faster --the uncommunicative chassis criticism of the c6 bothers me. i already experienced that firsthand in a Z51 spec car.

are we impressed with the braking numbers? they could suck mainly because of the runflats.....

for some reason, that sounds/reads unimpressive, but i have no baseline for the braking figure.

it's probably in the ballpark of the exotics but i bet those runflats keep it out of the top 3 for that metric.

(i bet the elise takes less distance.....
)

nope

Braking 70-0 mph :

1) Ferrari Challenge Stradale : 160 ft.
2) Caterham Super 7 Superlight : 163 ft.
3) Noble M12 GTO-3R : 165 ft.
4) Dodge Viper SRT-10 : 166 ft.
5) Porsche GT3 : 168 ft.
6) Lotus Elise : 170 ft.
7) Hona S2000 : 171 ft.
7) Mitsubishi Evolution RS : 171 ft.
9) Dodge SRT-4 : 185 ft.

the MR edition of the Evo came in the best I've seen at 158 ft

The elise is penalized I'm sure by its skinny stock tires. I do assume the Z06 will be that much better on non-runflats, but you have to think the runflats are doing pretty well to get a .98g skidpad result too

the Z06 tires are almost twice as wide as the elise's

Stuka should read the new R&T, where they opine that the Z06 is very steady at 190 mph...
