I guess there are a lot of rich blind people with nothing better to do than bid on franken-cars.

Apparently it really was shown at Amelia Island in 2016, in a special 1-year-only category called "Concepts Beyond Detroit" that was not judged. There's even a book about that category. There were 7 cars in the category and you can see them all here.

One of the best lines in that article is "Looking like the offspring of a Checker Cab and a leather sofa, was Mark Zalutko’s 1973 Mohs SafariKar. Covered in padded Naugahyde with slide-out doors, a huge retractable top and Rolls-Royce-like grill, company owner Bruce Mohs added three Steve McQueen (yes, the actor) racing bucket seats that swivel to ease access."

I guess there are people who will pay almost anything for a car that was "shown" at Amelia Island. Remember those jokers who submitted their homebuilt "Ferrari" (IIRC) to Amelia Island and were amazed when it was approved?
