Apparently so.

Others may call it a non-surprising (if not thoroughly predictable) Monday in October completely fitting the pattern of actions, events and behaviors clear to anyone paying attention over the past four years.

While an exploding sunroof is not a no-safety-impact event (nor a primarily German car problem, I don't see the equivalence with a large body panel flying off a car at speed and becoming a lethal threat to those behind it.

Reading more threads about actual use (especially from European drivers with experience in this car and other hybrids), the tech works pretty well to get you the power you need on the highway. Especially, if you use the trip computer to plan battery use. And you're right about the battery preservation.

Next July is the scheduled LCI, when the X3 will get the real, fully integrated iDrive 7, and some other tweaks. I'm wondering if they will also do better by the battery at that point. It might make sense to hold on until then, or until more information comes out.

The danger, of course, is that the front grille gets bigger!
Ha- i'm sure the grille will get bigger. Although with an LCI I doubt they'll go full frontal grill a la M3/4. That'll probably come in the next redesign. But yeah, I think with hybrids they are constantly tweaking and improving them so if you can wait its probably not a bad idea.

It seems like the launch of the x5 hybrid has been far from flawless too. At least 2 recalls and lots of reported gremlins. Might want to give it a few months to work the covid labor shortage issues and othe bugs out

I think that's right. I'm in no rush until I need to start hauling a bunch of giant boys around every week.

In the meantime, it's not fun cramming two medium-to-large dogs into the back of my convertible, but I only have to do that every once in a while (like this Thursday for their grooming appointment). My ex is good about schlepping them back and forth from her house to mine for the most part.

Edit: There was a stop sale on the X3 hybrid in August. Something about a bad bead. 4,500 units recalled.

Thank you for bringing my attention to what’s going on with the new X5 hybrid. Whoa. Hadn’t even really looked at Bimmerpost X5 forum.

I got all excited about the 4.5e when you started talking about it last week. I spent a couple of days there trying to understand real world range, driving impressions etc. I came away with a clear picture of its probably the the right next car for us, but not now, and definitely not launch year pre-owned.

Yes. Disappointing. But, launch year during a pandemic is just not really a good bet...
