Thoughts on this 540i?

http://www.roadfly.com/bmw/classifie..._YEAR&dir=DESC

I received more pics from the seller and the car looks very clean. I am going to call and feel him out today. If that pans out, Emission will go check the car out for me. His father-in-law is on his second E39 540i 6-sp. and absolutely loves it.

My only concern from looking at that ad is that those rims were on E39 530s not 540s. And then he doesn't give a VIN with which you can confirm what it is. As he doesn't list any "mods" and presents the car as original (if not in so many words), it makes me a bit suspicious.

As always, there may be a perfectly logical explanation.

I noticed the same things. I figured a phone call would flush out any "exclusions" in the ad.

I was also concerned about the rear fascia but it appears that changed on the '03s. So the one pictured would be correct for an '02 from what I've gathered thus far. I would rather find an '03 in all honesty, and there are quite a few nice specimens on autotrader at the moment.

Do you know if metallic trim was an option on these or will I be stuck with wood?

The '03s had gorgeous 18" rims and the M5's front and rear fascia. The '02s had handsome 17" rims and the smae front and rear fascias as all other '01+ E39s.

I didn't realize the '03s came with M Parallels, my all-time favorite BMW wheel design, until doing a specific search for '03s. And the fascias are a major improvement over the previous MY.

I have a call in to my go-to guy at our dealer to see what he can turn up. I'm starting to get a little excited, actually.

Since you two seem so in love with the wheels and fascia, I thought I'd search google images for a 2003 540i.

Looks pretty cool, but check to make sure it has this decal from this 540i website. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/257557/3

Those must be European bodies.
