I almost never find anything on this BaT thread a strong enough match to put my money on but this is one of them.

I love this spec. Great color/build, last/best example of a 997. Unfortunately, with such low miles and BaT, it will definitely be a high $$$ one - though likely worth it as in it'll hold its value.

Back in my wall st days, I may have gone for it. Now, I'll just think of the taxes and maintenance and time sink, it's still a costly proposition even if it doesn't depreciate.

I'd be really happy if someone on this board buys this (assuming there are no skeletons in the closet of this particular car).

It's already over 100K with 5 days left. My guess is reserve is something like 120 and truth be told it's probably worth every penny of that given the current market.

That is...more than I can spend.

From the sketch factory, where sketchy things are built, I give you...this:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1995-bmw-m3-177/

Why is the seller selling it after a thousand miles after spending all that money?

Why does the engine still have needs?

Why is that shift knob?

It just looks like your typical neglected E36 aside from the engine swap. It does have 235,000 miles...

It's not too uncommon to see someone take on a project and give up when they're between 50-95% finished. Very rarely do these swaps get finished to the level of Nick's car, or even close (and I know Nick had stuff he still wanted to do to perfect his).

I honestly kind of like that the owner isn't pretending the car is something it's not, which is most of what you see on BAT for older stuff. They didn't powerwash or cover up the underside of the car with black paint, they didn't spray liquid shine all over the engine bay, etc. I'm not gonna buy it but I'm interested to see what it goes for.

lol. Euro motors don’t have a check engine light. Mine is spliced to the oil pressure warning light so it illuminates at startup.

i’m really curious what’s been screwed up to make the CEL permanently on, because the DME is literally not capable. you’d have to have rewired it.

Is there any chance he's trying to run it on a US DME?

I mean, anything is technically possible (I've seen M20s run with M50 electronics), but the incredible effort required makes that pretty unlikely. They're really different, and on a '95 you have no risk of OBD readout requirements to make you want to even try.

Edit: It's worth noting that the S50B30 has a separate VANOS controller.

I mean they're all sequential-fire motors with COP ignition and a are mass-air fueled... so I'd think it wouldn't be THAT hard to run the Euro motor on a US DME if the desire is just getting the thing to start and run (poorly).

I'm trying to figure out how the CEL is on if it's running the European DME.

I'm guessing that they were trying to rig up a CEL for inspection and screwed it up. But, you, know, just a guess.

All it is +12v from a DME pin. Nothing complicated about the E36 cluster CEL.

Hmm. E91 pricing looks like it's falling back to this planet: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...-328i-wagon-8/
