I hadn't really understood the thread. I got to drive a 128i very soon after I stopped owning zhp's. They are very similar in overall feel. The zhp has more interior room and the 128i is a just a bit newer/tighter/solid feeling but that's about it. For similar price and if 2-doors are ok, I'd go with a 128i. I also don't see a big advantage of the 230 over the 128 except newness. Good luck.

I think they are all iterations of each other, but the 3 and the 1 will have better steering. The 2 will have more modern amenities and possibly be less trouble for longer. (Knock wood) it’s been one of the better BMW lines for reliability. Judging by this board, the 1s have been pretty stout as well.

Ugh, I remember that color. I tried to like a similar e90 with all the right options, mileage and price, but that color. Perhaps it wasn't exactly the same, arctic or something.

I didn’t catch the leatherette. That’s a fantastic spec.

I’m sort of curious about the option distribution on sold order cars. Like, did it mostly line up with the most popular options? Or did order cars have their own commonalities?

Or perhaps more exciting, were order cars just an unpredictable potpourri of random bullshit? Because my experience looking at E61s suggests the latter.

2017 230? Or 2005-6 ZHP?

Depends on why they were ordering -

A) the bimmerfest type that wanted a very particular spec (MT, leatherette, a-la-carte options vs. just ordering premium pkg)… 50/50 chance it was something that is now $$$ highly desired enthusiast spec or WTF?

B) pretty generic, just ordered bc inventory was low or they wanted a color that dealers didn’t normally stock but let the salesperson tell them what options to get - so it has premium, cold weather pkg & auto, etc

This was the spec for our 325xiT. But, at least exterior was topaz.

Like my "make me one with everything" wagon? A BMWNA person at one of the Lime Rock BMW events told me it was the highest-spec 3er wagon they ever sold in the US, and that's before I added all of the Euro-only options and tasteful aftermarket stuff like the Phatbox, StealthOne and iRain.

I think back in the day on Bimmerfest that exterior color was affectionately labeled as Urinal Mint green.

It's no Steel grey, but I doubt hate it on it totally.

Oh, and another vote for the 128i. Great platform to raise a further enthusiast upon. Last of the real old school steering Roundels.
